Why is Elmo so popular? Does anyone REALLY know? Well, we may find out in the new Jury Prize winning documentary from the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Being Elmo: A Puppeteer’s Journey. The reviews are in and I can’t wait to see this film!
The documentary focuses on puppeteer Kevin Clash, the man behind the cute, adorable, fuzzy, red, 3 and a half year old monster and his journey to becoming Elmo, the most powerful puppet on the planet.
I mean let’s face it, this puppet connects with kids like nothing else. My kids adore him and my 2 year-old nephew LOVES him, he even had an all out Elmo birthday. Check out this adorable Elmo sheet cake my sister-in-law made:
This fuzzy red monster is so loved by kids that studies have shown that if you put his image on broccoli, kids will chose it over a candy bar! Now that’s power.
The movie is currently being shown at film festivals BUT if you are lucky enough to live in Austin, Texas you can see Being Elmo at South By SouthWest between March 11-20th.
For the rest of us, we can read Clash’s 2006 autobiography book he wrote: My Life as a Furry Red Monster: What Being Elmo Has Taught Me About Life, Love and Laughing Out Loud.
